Web Analytics: Chapter 1

Like mentioned in my previous posts, I should be updating this blog more frequently. As it turns out, this unemployment period is putting a strain on my motivation. With that said, here is a review of the first chapter.

I read the first chapter on my way to New York for a job interview - which deserves a blog entry in itself - and found it to be well written but obvious. It should be common sense that a happy customer equals better business, but was not as obvious is how analyzing your website can reveal why customers navigate through your website the way they do; not how, but why?

That is the biggest takeaway that I will probably get from this book; web analytics doesn't just show how things are done online but it offers some reasons why. In addition, understanding the customer can help to optimize the customer's behavior.

Web analytics have come quite a long way in just a short period of time so the industry is considered very immature. What happens in the next few years can help better define how web analytics are used and also will undoubtedly create some internet analytic stars, Avinash already one of them.
