Last week I received a B on my Independent Study project. While I normally do not pay too much attention to what grades I receive, this upset me. For the amount of work I put in, the practicality of my marketing recommendations and the feasibility of my solutions, I believe I deserved an A. My professor asked that I come with reasoning to my Portfolio Review - which was yesterday.
As I walked in with my portfolio, I didn't know what to expect. We spoke about my experience for a few minutes and what I plan on showing potential companies interested in hiring me. We then moved the conversation to my independent study. I had put together a one page explanation on why I deserved an A. After some discussion, I walked out of the room thinking the grade hadn't changed but was applauded for my effort.
Well; this morning I woke up and checked my grades....Straight A's. I finished my graduate school career with straight A's. I will never know if my professors truly agreed with me in that I deserved an A but I am thankful they took my explanation into consideration.
Will getting straight A's help get me get my perfect job? Of course not. But it shows the value of being persistent and standing up for what you believe in. This was a personal goal of mine and I am glad I was able to achieve it.
