Phew...I can breath a little easier.
Last Thursday, in my Account Leadership class, I began to feel uncomfortable when I would turn my head to the left. I first thought I hadn't eaten enough or something was making me nauseous, but I didn't think too much on it. The weekend went by and there were spells where my vision felt "shaky". That's really the only way I could explain it. Anyway, Jacob and I drove down to VA Beach to visit the Spirits of Blue Ridge Vodka and while driving, I really began to notice that something was wrong. Not only when I turned my head to the left, but when I saw cars 100 or so feet in front of me, I would see double.
I immediately set up an appointment for Monday morning. When I saw the first doctor, I expected him to say, "Well your vision is not as good as it used to be and you need glasses." To my surprise though, my vision was fine; in fact 20/15. The problem was though that I have double vision. I was sent to another doctor who specializes in double vision and was seen immediately. Thats when I began to realize this is more serious than I had thought. She explained that I do in fact have double vision due to a weakness in my cranial muscle in my left eye. She explained that most likely, it will self-heal in 6-12 weeks and everything will be fine. As a doctor though, she mentioned the least likely and worst case scenario...Brain Tumor - could be cancerous. One of my parents friends mentioned that the doctor should not have told me this. Personally, I am extremely glad she did because I would not have wanted to hear that I had a brain tumor not expecting it.
Thankfully though, my MRI came back negative and everything up there is working properly. The next step will be getting my blood work back and that should happen tomorrow. With one hurdle passed, I am ready to face whatever the diagnosis is. The reality is it could have been a lot worse and I have to be thankful for my doctor, my family and my friends...
Here is a picture of what I could have...Myasthenia Gravis.
