Making myself more interesting...

Back in 2006, Russel Davies wrote in his blog that you can do 10 things to make yourself more interesting. Thankfully, in my Account Leadership class at the VCU Brandcenter, we are tasked with doing three of the 10 things in the remainder of the semester.

Here are the ten things:

1. Take at least one picture a day and post it on Flickr.
2. Start a blog.
3. Keep a scrapbook.
4. Once a week, read a magazine that you wouldn't normally read.
5. Interview someone for 20 minutes - once a month - and podcast the interviews.
6. Collect something at least once a week
7. Sit in a coffee shop or cafe for an hour a week and eavesdrop
8. Once a month, write 50 words about visual arts, writings, music, film or television.
9. Make something with your hands - "Making is the new thinking"
10. Read these books by the end of the semester: The Mezzanine, Understanding Comics, Visual Display of Qualitative Information.

The whole idea is that interesting people are interested as well as willing to share. My class will be busy doing these ten things as well as presenting our findings to the class each week. I chose to do three things that I probably won't do after I graduate.

1. Become a journalist: Interview someone once a month for 20 minutes and podcast it.

2. Become a carpenter: I plan on building something for the Brandcenter that can be left behind for future classes.

3. Become a movie critic. Taking the 50 words a step further, I plan on reviewing a movie once a month and podcasting it. I will be doing this with Sean Staley, an elite Brandcenter student.
