Blogs, blogs and more blogs...

It seems that my daily perusing of websites has transitioned from solely old-media to an increasingly amount of blogs. Among other things, blogs help introduce us to people we would never have come across. For instance, I was on Charlie's blog reading his latest post and followed a couple of links to Hugh MacLeod's Gaping Void blog. It is pretty brilliant and an interesting read.

Hugh's blog talks a lot about "Social Objects" and while I won't try to explain in this post, it is really something we should all learn about. Surprisingly, for a school that prides itself on creating the next great advertiser or marketer, this subject has never been breached. Maybe our school is not unlike many of the corporations we make fun of...

Anyway, I wonder if old-media companies decided to act more like blogs. For instance, if I was reading an article on The Washington Post why can't I be linked to The New York Times to read their view or even Richmond's local paper, The Times Dispatch. Of course, executives would argue that promoting competitors would be foolish and could potentially lose revenue. My argument would be simple; Your business is all about the reader. Its apparent that readers have not only begun to move online but they are also more interested in getting the same information from a number of sources. They also want to be able to digest information as easy as possible...You have the ability to make that happen.

That would be my argument...and my two cents for now.
Happy Holidays by the way!
